Only two days...

Have been AWOL from the garden for two days. Oh dear! Suddenly things in the gardens over the water race are not so good. It's weeds, weeds, and more weeds. Mess, mess, and more mess. Surely not in two days? Must have been brewing for weeks.

So today I've Just spent three hours near the brick spiral courtyard doing my best (and trying not to get gloomy). Non-Gardening Partner (bless him) is behind with the mowing, so my lawns have reverted to paddocks, covered in yellow flowering dandelions. This should be a pretty look, but just contributes to the general look of neglect.

Trimming the Miscanthus...

I have a new pair of secateurs (thanks to NGP), and so I've been able to start trimming the large Miscanthus grasses. Their large seed-heads look wonderful throughout winter, but now the new shoots are growing. The secateurs are nice and sharp. How do I know this? Because I nicked the side of my finger with them. Ouch. So now, suitably plastered (hee hee), I am going back outside to light the bonfire.

 Such wonderful colours.
Spring 2024

Negatives : I've had to (carefully) weed-spray the orange Alstroemeria in the Island Bed, not the most pleasant of tasks. Also touched up a small patch of Oxalis. Invasive, unwanted Alstroemeria is guaranteed to make the staunchest of gardeners a bit gloomy. But I am OK!

My seeds have germinated...

Cleaned myself up after the bonfire and went over to my half glass-house (broken in two by the Wattle trees falling down) to check my seeds. They've all germinated, which is very exciting. Dribbled a bit of water on them. Seeing my seedlings alive and thriving gave me hope! Gardens grow and change over short lengths of time as well as years. Will there be time to continue the hard work tomorrow? Yes, probably. Even under torch light, if necessarily. And I need to remember - it's not a fight. It's a partnership, right?

 By the house.
Under the Wisteria

Impossible to get gloomy when the patio Wisteria has started to flower. Amazing fragrance, beautiful colour and form. A peaceful place in a busy garden - even if that garden is crowded with jostling weeds and surrounded by unkempt lawns. Yes, yes. we get the picture...
