Thursdays...

Unknown creamy white roses
Thursdays in 2026 are (in theory) my lovely 'don't have to go anywhere' days. Yeay! Days of gardening, or reading, or mooching around doing nothing (hopefully not too many of these).
Thursday 12th March
So far this Thursday I've gardened for three hours. I started by the dog kennels clearing out gum tree mess and trimming the Potato vine (which was following its natural instincts to climb over everything in sight).
Lots of gum tree mess covered the soil, and I did some subtle weed spraying on a small patch of oxalis. Have to - can't successfully dig those pesky bulbs out.
On my way to the bonfire for the third time I stopped by the back of the garage, decided then and there to do something about the mess of Shasta daisies and ferns growing by the water race. Sat down, sliced and removed them (don't mind if they regrow).
Gravity versus old hips...
Got horribly wedged between two roses on the sloping bank, about to fall in the water. Sat there for about five minutes giggling about gravity versus stiff old hips. And rose thorns versus old skin...

Carefully extracted myself, and worked for two more hours. I cleaned up all my Shasta mess (including waterside Carexes which I'd sliced down), and scooped up loads of dry Phormium pieces from the fence-line. Threw everything on the bonfire, layering the totally dry stuff with the daisies and ferns. Burnt the lot. Yeay!

Am so happy. A shower, clean hair, an iced water, relax and watch more Youtube canoe adventures in Quebec and Labrador - one of my latest mini-obsessions. I find the Canadian wilderness land and its waterways absolutely fascinating.
Portaging though my garden?
Sometimes when I'm plodding around my garden carrying mess I imagine I'm portaging a canoe in the Barrenlands. Oh really? Pretty silly, me! All in all, the perfect end to a wonderfully busy Thursday. May there be plenty more!
