Early autumn...
Late summer seems to have transitioned into early autumn. The light has changed - gardeners notice such things. And so do people who sleep in garden cottages. Cooler nights, darker mornings, lots more reflective autumnal thoughts...

Greenery by the Glass-House
So I wonder where all the stinking hot summer days went (there were only a few). And why the trees seem to be so much bigger (there was a lot of rain). And if I have had a busy, productive summer, or not (I sort of have). And is my garden actually better for all the hours of work I've spent in it? Hope so.

Slowing down?
As long as the garden is the only thing slowing down, all will be well. And as long as my gardening head is filled with happy positives. Sometimes reflections can turn into regrets. Don't want that to happen. It's silly to dwell on the things (lots) I haven't done, or only half-finished. It will be what it is...
Monday 2nd March
A weekend of heavy singing commitments (Mozart, Bach, and so on) and sunshine has been followed by a cold snap - wet, with wintry temperatures. Have lit the log-burner, and am wearing three layers of merino. Rain is splattering around outside. I am staying inside.
March!
Have only just realised that it is March. A new month. Wow. February, that silly, short month, has flashed past. So it is early autumn, according to most New Zealand gardening experts.
Tuesday 3rd March
Nope. Early autumn has morphed into winter. The log burner is going again, it's only six degrees (Celsius) outside, no chance of gardening in the wet and cold for me. Just short walks with the dogs around the driveway. Crikey! This is rather strange. I remember March being mellow and balmy.
Didn't take any photographs of the rain, or the puddles, or the grey skies. Too busy huddling inside the house. Please enjoy these colourful pictures of flowers instead.
