Waiting for rain...

 Aargh!
Broom!

Have wasted quite a lot of time staying inside waiting for rain. Teasing notifications keep appearing on my phone - 'rain expected within the hour', and so on. After only two hot days my garden is struggling a little. The Ligularias, for example, are drooping madly, though they are one of the very first dryness indicators. Obviously rain is much more 'coversome' and efficient than my watering efforts with buckets and little hoses.

Have just been for another walk with my camera - very, very light drizzle is falling. Pushed my way through the interior of the Dog-Path Garden - oh dear. Broom and gorse seedlings (not so good), red Maple tree seedlings (great). It will take a good morning's work to clean up this garden.

Update, nearly lunchtime :

'Light rain expected from mid-day on...' Have put on my gardening shorts. I must go outside and accomplish something.

Two hours later...

Didn't do too well. Stopped to weed by Willow Bridge, but didn't do a very thorough job. Scraped away with my fingers because my hand scraper tool is lost. Sore fingers. Humph.

Then I weeded along the edge of the Dog-Path Garden, and came to the brick Koru courtyard. Oh dear. Lots of weeds between the bricks, and invasive Euphorbia happily invading everything within reach - all will require application of weed-killer. More subsidence in the courtyard itself - will need to dig up, infill, and relay some bricks.

Stopped just as the rain started, not the happiest of gardeners. Washed my hair to cheer myself up. Too cold to go boho apres-gardening - this is definitely a warm weather style.

 They are everywhere...
Bumble Bee

Memo to self :

Two items. Buy a new hand scraper. You need your fingers to be OK playing the piano. And sort out a new squirty bottle of weed-killer. Needs must. You have to rationalise your weeding regime.

Thursday 15th October

Blast! Have wasted yet another day, garden-wise, waiting for forecast rain which hasn't really arrived at all. Spent ages doing other things (watching a canoe journey through the Barrens, lunching with my friend, doing choir arrangements, reading a book, and so on).

Rain is in the air?

Every time I went for a garden walk I was sure I sensed rain in the air. A day of precipitation-induced procrastination, AKA laziness. Tomorrow I will have to make up the deficit.
