Late roses...
Have been house-bound for the last three days, kept away from the garden by a wintry blast and cold rain. But the late autumn roses are still so beautifully colourful. Yeay! They cheer me up immediately, reminding me that it's not quite winter yet.
This Thursday morning started off at three degrees Celsius. But yeay! Now it's nearly lunchtime, the sun is shining, the temperature has gone up to ten degrees, and I'm ready to get back into my garden.
Five hours later...
It's just so nice to have been outside again, and not cold or wet. I've planted the new Lavenders and Chrysanthemums by the dog kennels, trimmed all the new growth off the sprouting Viburnums nearby, and saved a Pittosporum from the grasping tendrils of the Potato vine. Raked out four barrowfuls of mess and wheeled them to the bonfire.

New Dull Pink Chrysanthemums
Then crossed over the Frisbee Lawn and cleared mess from the edge of that garden - it's a bit of a wilderness, and needs more Agapanthus plantings.
Winnie the dog :- Winnie is my twelve year old black and white Border Collie.
Winnie lay down near me and followed whenever I shifted location. Pebbles her sister, not the slightest bit interested in what I was up to, sat over by the boundary fence and stared into the neighbour's paddock. At nothing. Given the choice between me and next door's empty paddock I'd choose me any day!
Problems with the Viburnums...
Lit the bonfire, then quickly trimmed more Viburnums - these ones were by Middle Bridge. I can't let them re-grow - their leaves go silver-brown, and they look horrible. Burnt them, added more dry Phormium leaves collected from underneath the Leyland hedge. Am very happy with my day.
