Semi-ancient?

Patio Roses
Those Dutch Iris bulbs I thought were all planted - the birds have had a frenzied scratching party and dug them all up. And now I've found another huge bowlful in the garage. Hmm... Strange how I was given so many by two different gardening friends, in the same week. They are meant to grow in my garden? Not if the birds have anything to do with it...
Monday 20th April
This morning it's lightly drizzling. I have vague plans, to crank up the bonfire if nothing else, after I've had my morning coffee.
Put my gardening clothes on and popped outside. It's cold - have come back inside to light the log-burner. Might be a slow day inside reading and playing the piano.
Four hours later...
Nope! I was good. I banked up the log-burner and went back outside. Replanted the bulbs scattered around by my birds. Burnt lots of mess, dragging armful after armful of dry Phormium leaves to the bonfire. Then sat under an annoying green Phormium by Middle Bridge and sliced all its leaves off.
Had a go with the axe to break it up further - not so successful. I want it gone! Threw the dead stuff on the fire and carted all the live green leaves and fans over the bridge to throw underneath the Leyland hedge.

Phormium Stump
When I plod over Middle Bridge with a heavy armful of stuff I go really, really slowly and cautiously. Would be so annoyed if I overbalanced and tipped into the water (have done this once). Anyone watching would think I was absolutely ancient. Oh well. Maybe semi-ancient?

Smoke in the Autumn Trees
When real blobby rain started to fall I came inside, changed out of my smoky clothes, and encouraged the log-burner. Yeay for me and my garden! And yeay for my woolly green striped shawl. Warm shoulders.
