Thursdays and Fridays...

House Patio
Oh joyous day! Thursday! Love, love, love my Thursdays. They are full of gardening fun. Except this Thursday I have written a scary list, which contains the scary verb 'rake', implying serious physical exercise, and the most scariest verb known to any gardener : 'finish'. Aargh! Not a very nice way to start this wonderful day...
Thursday 14th March
The very last item on my list is much, much nicer : to shift the Hydrangeas out of the Jelly Bean Border (where they struggle underneath a large Eucalyptus tree) and replant them in the middle of the Island Bed.
A much better location, much more moisture - and shrubs for free, recycling my own.
Lunchtime...
So it's taken me three hours to dig out, trim, and replant five fairly chunky Hydrangeas. Hmm... Either I am mega-slow, or mega-thorough. Or both? But that's OK. I always do my best. The Island Bed is being watered as I write.
Three hours later...
Back into it. I've dragged out two barrow loads of mess from the Jelly Bean Border, mainly gum bark and assorted weedy leafy mess. This task wasn't even on my scary list. Then I spent an hour weeding around the new Camellias, finding quite a few odd clumps of Lamium (which I don't want in here). I lit the bonfire. All my mess is burnt. It seems that I've achieved very little, but am feeling extremely tired. Don't know how that works, really. Have heaps of energy in my head today, but not enough physical follow-through. Washing my hair will help perk me up.
Friday 15th May
I love Fridays, too, because I go to my Chamber Music group in the mornings. I visit my new butcher (to buy nitrate free bacon, organic meat, etc.) and the organic vegetable shop next door. Then I come home and launch myself into my equally organic garden.

Lone Prosperity Rose
So this afternoon I cleared more mess out of the Jelly Bean Border. Tried not to tread on any seedling Euphorbias, which grow really well underneath the big gum tree. Then sat down in the Septic Tank Garden to pull out more Lamium.

Weeping Maiden Camellia
Did a major removal of this almost a year ago, and have to remember to 'top it up' (i.e. pull new bits out) every six months or so. Good gardeners always remember to follow up, right?
Rogue periwinkle...
Also found a few rogue Periwinkle plants (not welcome in this garden either) and a Phormium Tricolor by the fence which was overdue for division. Pulled it to pieces - it's now sitting in water waiting. For a pot? Or a new garden position? Not sure. Thanks, Friday, for living up to the hype!
