Better than good...

Sunny Smiles for May
Today I have to be good. No, I have to be better than good. For the last few days I've floated around in a sea of excuses. Too cold to garden, not quite enough time, too tired, too many autumn leaves, too dark, and so on.
Those leaves...
Firstly, those oak leaves. My target (modest) is to fill six bags, which will eventually transform into leaf mould. And then some small-scale weeding - lots of my flowery gardens are small-scale messy.
Three hours later...
Yeay! I've collected six bags of leaves. I've weeded in the garden by the pergola, shifted some roses around, and planted the first of my new daffodils. Also rescued some big bearded irises, planted them in hopefully a sensible spot.
My latest obsession...
Confession time : spent last two hours outside hoping that it would rain, because then I could go inside and watch another episode of Lewis (an old British detective series).

Calendulas in the Herb Spiral
Well, that's what I am going to do now (actually half an episode, the perfect lunch length). It's my latest obsession...
Two hours even later...
I dug out some really large coarse green Carex grasses from the Pergola Garden - took ages, one monster proving very difficult. Then I moved on to the Herb Spiral and started some weeding. Yeay for me! Five hours of reasonably strenuous work is a really good outcome for one day. I am much happier with myself having been gardening, not just floating around making excuses.
