My summer routine...

 The prettiest flowerhead.
Acanthus

My summer routine continues. Gardening. Playing Brahms on my piano. Taking photographs. Writing my journal. Reading my latest detective story...

Watching cricket on TV. Thinking about my garden. Sleeping. Then more gardening. More Brahms...

Sunday 28th December

Speckles the stray cat now has a new routine (at least for the last four nights). He pops in the cottage window, eats his meal, then curls up at the foot of my bed, where he snoozes? sleeps? for quite a few hours. Awww - finally, some progress, after four years of feeding. Is it possible?

The Good Gardening Fairy?

Today was deeply satisfying - I was the good gardening fairy. I finished weeding below the glass-house, and spread two more bags of my Christmas compost. Then I checked the bags of leaf mould (from my oak trees two autumns ago) around. Yeay! It's like magic! Lots of deep rich good stuff. Spread six bags around the Hydrangeas near the cottage.

Then I continued cleaning up the paths around the Herb Spiral. Trimmed the Delphiniums right down (last year they all reflowered beautifully after doing this). Worked until the rain came. Didn't tie up the tomatoes. Oh well. Gardening fairies can't ever be 100% good - then there'd be nothing to strive for!

Monday 29th December

Two hours work and the Herb Spiral is sort of done. Sprayed the dandelions in the path. Noticed that the garden mix I spread all over the veggie garden in spring has sprouted a lot of fat hen weeds. Naughty.

At least the path is clear!

Now the plan is to do twenty minutes of jigsaw, then return outside, but this time to the Hump Garden. Guess who didn't finish weeding its path a few weeks ago? Who could that possibly have been?

Much later...

Put six jigsaw pieces in. Hopeless. Finished one tiny section of the Hump Path (two barrowfuls of mess). Dug out more Campion. Too late to go to the rose nursery. Washed my hair and watched some cricket. Had my evening meal about 4:30pm. Wondered if this was really too early. Decided that it was actually quite sensible. So there!
