Perfect?

It's a wet, grey day, perfect for watering all my new Agapanthus plantings, not so perfect for gardening. And anyway I have a bagful of new library books (great choices) and a new jigsaw (a tropical rainforest). Naturally I'd really like to be outside in my garden trimming more Gunnera. Really? Correction : I like the idea of the trimming being finished. I'm visualising all the brown leaves and watery stems stashed under the hedge, the water-side gardens free from large brown leaf drapery.

 Clean them up!
Dead Gunnera Leaves

Think I'll be sensible and stay comfortable inside with warm feet. Near the log-burner.

Friday 27th June

Aha! An afternoon window of opportunity - the sun came out briefly. So I put on my crocs and worked in the water race from Car Bridge to Willow Bridge, chopping down more Gunnera leaves and stems. Lasted twenty minutes. Feet and legs got really cold.

Haven't cleaned up the mess yet. Tomorrow? Just a few more clumps to trim now - phew! Because I realise that very, very soon it will be rose pruning time, and growing over two hundred roses creates rather a lot of canes to burn. Eek.

The joy of gardening...

So there's always something coming up which needs doing. But that's the joy of gardening, yes?

Sunday 29th June

An interesting gardening day. My plan was minimal - to go into the water race in the afternoon, maybe last for twenty minutes, trim some more Gunnera. But the flow of water was down to just a trickle. This meant that gumboots would protect my feet, and I could stay in there for ages. So I did. Trimmed from Willow Bridge to Middle Bridge - Gunnera, dead Phormium leaves, green Carexes, Ferns. Three hours. Threw everything onto the back lawn. Non-Gardening Partner (bless him) appeared - would I like to go the pub for a roast dinner? Oh yes. My reward.
