Like a dog with short legs...
How long now? Only three weeks until the winter solstice. Wow! Time scuttles along like a dog with short legs on a long mission. Take from that silly sentence what you will!

Speckles the Stray
Friday 30th May
Early this morning I had a cup of tea on the cottage verandah with Speckles my stray cat, before zooming off to Chamber Music. He bunted and smooched me, walking over and over my lap (very daring for this wildest of wild cats).
Naturally I patted him, told him how handsome he was, and warned him not to dare bite my elbows. We have a very one-sided relationship.
New daffodil bulbs...
On the way home from Chamber Music I picked up one hundred mixed daffodil bulbs. The seller will have some more for me in a few weeks (doubles). Very exciting - but late in the planting season!
Saturday 31st May
Eek! Today I have a slightly fuzzy head. So it's been a slow sit-down garden day. I've weeded parts of the Pergola Garden and planted some of my new daffodils. They are already sprouting, so have to be in the earth as quickly as possible. Then I collected flattish stones to make a proper edge for the wee curved house garden. Planted daylilies and more daffodil bulbs therein. Mid-afternoon I lit the bonfire and wandered over to the Hen House Gardens to collect up gum bark. Had fun - sat down and started weeding Henworld, whose new Agapanthus plantings are thriving.

Hens in Henworld
However the metal roosters are all very scruffy, with wings and tails coming loose, and several of the oldest hens have come apart. Oh well. Might be time for some replacements.
Sunday 1st June
Sang Schubert in the morning then put on my shorts and zoomed back into Henworld and its surrounding gardens. Spent a happy two hours just scooping up mess (dry leaves, gum bark, all sorts of burnables), loading the wheelbarrow and wheeling it over to the bonfire. Really enjoyed myself. Found lots of flower colour to take photographs of, too. Lovely garden, thank you so much!
