Beautiful October garden!

 Recycled from my friends garden.
Sunny Camellia

Hello, beautiful October garden. You are looking amazing. Sorry about yesterday - a beautiful spring sunny day and I muddled around inside reading, formatting my garden photographs, and practicing Dvorak. Then went to my chamber music rehearsal.

Imperfect timing...

Today I am available, but it's raining gently. Great, not a problem, just my imperfect timing. Should have swapped the days around!

A camera walk...

Have just been for a slightly drippy walk with the camera. Oh dear. Found a very healthy collection of weeds in the Stumpy Garden over the water race. The prettiest green textures ever. Oops. Did NOT take a photograph! When I get home from today's music rehearsal I will sort them out.

Friday 3rd October

Have spent all of October weeding a small part of the Stumpy Garden. Actually, that is a misleading statement. Have spent two hours over two days redefining the edges and weeding. Such luxurious weed clumps! I blame all the horse manure which I spread around this garden. But the soil needed help.

 This lawn needs mowing!
Stumpy Garden Weeded

It's a lovely spot in which to sit and work, though, with the gurgling water in the race making very musical sounds. I've been whistled at by bellbirds, and shrieked at by pheasants. Gentle noises, compared to the wind roaring in the trees and my dogs barking rudely at the neighbours.

Saturday 4th October

Today I did more gardening in the Stumpy Garden : tidying the edges, weeding, digging out foxgloves from the lawn and replanting them, and so on. It started drizzling, I kept going, but gradually things just got woo wet.

Right. The drizzle has stopped and I really want to do some more gardening. A list might help.

  1. Clear more edges of the Dog-Path Garden.
  2. Trim the Miscanthus and the Buddleia.
  3. Dig self-seeders out of lawn, plant or pot.

Eek! So much to do, so much time, but not so much mental energy - the story of retirement life, maybe?

Two hours later...

Have almost taken down the Miscanthus (whose girth is enormous). Barrowed the grass stalks to the bonfire. Cleared confused Irises (Iris confusa Chengdu) which were spreading happily into the lawn. Dug up more Lupin Seedlings.

 By the driveway.

It's raining again...

And then it started raining again, and this was very, very welcome (the Miscanthus was starting to annoy me). Came inside, changed out of my wet, muddy shorts, wiped the dirt off my knees, and prepared myself mentally for spring cricket (New Zealand playing Australia).

And - alas - we (NZ) lost again. But it's only a game...

Sunday 5th October

Went out this morning to sing Mozart, then had lunch with my friend. Arrived home to blustery wintry weather - diagonal rain, cold wind gusts. Brr...

Not so keen...

Was not so keen to repeat yesterday's cold and wet shorts experience. Stayed inside, went on a Youtube adventure.
