Arondo by the Water Race...

Today I'm going to try a focussed list - everything needing to be done is on the banks of the water race. Every few years or so the foliage plants along the edges need serious trimming - or even digging out. I will work in one place, and not wander off. I will not lose the kitchen breadknife.

List :

Growing on the dog-path by the water.
Variegated Reed

Oops...

A word regarding the last item, the variegated reed (Arondo donax). Thought I'd check online regarding its trimming. Oh dear. Was directed to the New Zealand website Weedbusters. The article was concerned with its eradication, with headings like : Why is it weedy? What damage can it do? What can I do to get rid of it? The chemicals suggested were frightening.

And I've been seeing it as an ornamental grass. Oh dear. My passion for strappy leaves and variegation gets me into trouble.

Later...

Yeay! Kept to the list, worked until I just got too cold. Didn't lose anything, collected all my tools up. Am inside with the wood-burner warming me up. I love that I'm burning my own firewood, from my own trees, firewood that I heaved under the hedge last year to dry out, and that I collected just a couple of days ago. Nice connections. All that hard work rewarded on a rather cold winter's evening.

And coffee cups, garden tools, etc.
Firewood

Maybe I'm irresponsible (oh really? is this possible?) but I'm not going to remove or eradicate the Arondo. I am going to keep an eye on its behaviour. After all, it has been growing happily for over ten years, without serious consequences. Famous last words?
