Looking much tidier...
NGP and Dogs
One good reason why I like Non-Gardening Partner so much. We were out walking with the dogs, and he remarked - without any prompting or hinting from me - that my winter garden was looking much tidier than he could ever remember. Yesssss! Because I reckon I have been doing heals of trimming and pruning. I can't remember ever doing this much before!
Today, however, there will be no continuation of my garden clean-up. Because it is raining solidly and noisily. Some of the house gutters are overflowing (oops). Some of the drains are blocked, there's a puddly pond where the car gets parked, and the low parts of the lawns are sloshy with water. It's definitely an indoors day.
Sunday 11th August
I'd love to be planting my new roses (five more have arrived from a friend's garden), spreading my new load of wormy horse manure (fifteen bagfuls) around, and covering everything with mulch. But I'm not going to. Watery thought - hope those worms are OK.

Shaping up for life - again...
For the last three weeks I've been on my Shape Up For Life Campaign - eat less, eat better, that sort of thing. It all started because my favourite gardening shorts wouldn't fit me. Oops. Am hesitant to check them out, but after all it is winter.
But something must be happening - I've been able to wash my favourite apres gardening jeans, and get them on without too much grunting and gasping. Yeay!
Dog diets...
Both my dogs are on a maintenance weigh management diet as well. They are doing well, both staying just under 20kgs - the right weight for Border Collie girls.
Sorry, Tiger...
On a less happy note, things are not going so well for Tiger my old cat, whose appetite has faded away. I do my best, providing treats, cooked chicken, finely chopped steak, and so on. But I can't see much of a future for her. Sorry, Tiger. Finally, how thoughtful am I? I am pretty hungry myself, but have just given my last half banana to the birdies. Awwww...
The Fred cats are happy with this rain - they're snoozing by the log-burner. But the dogs are soooooo bored being inside. So I'll take them out for a walk. Perhaps take some photographs of my water-logged garden. Splosh around a bit. Take the umbrella (there's little wind) and check out the puddles. Back soon.

Later...
Brr. Cold as well as wet. Checked the roses - two are the Noack Flower Carpets, two are medium shrubs with small flowers, and one (pale pink) looks fairly robust. It might need something to ramble and/or climb over?
