Good morning 2026

 Second flowering.
Crepuscule Rose

Good morning, 2026. Thanks for the rain, my garden loves it when it rains. But thank you also (in advance) for the summer sunshine which I hope to arrive this afternoon - so I can start off 2026 with some good gardening.

Last night...

On the last night of 2025 both Speckles (my regular stray) and Foxie (the random ginger and white scaredy-cat stray) both came for their meals. Then at dusk I had to get out of bed - Pebbles the dog was barking behind the pond (she'd found a hedgehog). Shooed her back to the house, went to check on the hedgehog.

Except I couldn't really get in there safely. The path was so overgrown with branches - thorny Berberis threatened my face, I wobbled and had to duck past the Escallonias.

And tall, tenacious weeds were growing in the middle of the path itself - had to swish my legs out like a toy soldier so as not to fall over. Must have looked ridiculous in my nightie in the gloom. Didn't find the hedgehog.

 By the fence-line.

Path maintenance...

Illuminating (but maybe not surprising) that my first task for the change-over of years will be to clear a blocked path. So that's what I'm doing this afternoon, when the rain stops. And it is forecast to stop. The new year will begin just as the old year ended - with path maintenance.

More Agapanthus...

I also have some large gifted Agapanthus clumps to divide and plant. So suitable for the difficult, less irrigated parts of my garden. The thought is that they could all go in the garden by the pond path : I could plant as I clear. 'Killing two birds with one stone' is a rather bad way of putting it. AI (bless he/she/it) suggests the more positive 'feeding two birds with one scone'. But really, birds shouldn't be fed scones - should they? I certainly wouldn't.

Later, mid-afternoon...

It's still raining - even heavier than this morning. Humph. Put about ten pieces of jigsaw in - hopeless. Then went for a wet walk with Winnie to take some photographs.

A new year, new music.

Now I am going to write some music arrangements for my Jazz choir for 2026. A new year, new music. Straighten Up and Fly Right. Yeay!

So the first page of my 2026 journal is entitled : What I did while I waited for the rain to stop. Because it didn't. So I finished the music arrangement, read more of my book, watched some cricket, and got a bit cross with my jigsaw.

And there will be more to fall off the trees.

Would rather have been gardening...
