Sorry, Pyracantha...

 By the water race.
One Dollar Pyracantha

I have discovered yet more unwanted trees in my messy garden. Namely, Pyracantha which have resprouted from trunks cut down years ago. A confusing shrub-tree : a nasty critter with stunning red berries.

Today I did my best with my saw and loppers. Deconstructed and dragged out heaps of branches - the Pyracantha is very unpleasant to handle, so thorny (particularly for a gloveless gardener, oops). Now all is ready for the arrival of the chain-saw.

Then I raked up some more oak leaves from the Pond Paddock (just one pile, pretty lightweight really). Wandered around looking for Speckles the cat who has yet again gone AWOL. No sign of him. The logical me tells the emotional me two things : a) he is a feral, likely a tom-cat, and b) he has most likely reached his desired healthy adult weight, thanks to me feeding him, and can therefore partake more in tom-cat pleasures. Hmm...

Tuesday 26th April

A milestone day! Have lit the log-burner for the first time this autumn-winter. It's warming the spirit as much as the body, since the house is not all that cold. So what's the plan for today? Oops. All I can think of is the chain-sawing, but Non-Gardening Partner has escaped (gone to work). It's so much easier planning things for someone else, hee hee...

Later...

Instead of waiting for the chain-saw I took action - slow, painstaking action - and sawed down more of the Pyracantha. This seemed to take me ages, but for a gardener there's always pride in the do-it-yourself approach.

 Beautiful!
Pyracantha Berries

So I have one left, a beautiful specimen by the water race which cost me one dollar, and its berries are absolutely stunning. One Pyracantha shrub/tree is just fine!
