Gardening Articles 2014

Most gardeners always have something to say about everything they do in their garden. We're so busy creating that we can't help ideas spilling out. Maybe we'll scribble in paper notebooks, or talk out aloud while driving in the car to the nursery. Some gardeners even pretend they're famous and interview themselves in front of the autumn bonfire. Oops - that sounds like me. Hope you enjoy my articles for 2014.

If ever I needed it, I have yet more proof that Non-Gardening Partner doesn't take much notice of my garden, or ever listen properly to me. I understand that listening can be a dangerous business. He may nod and commit himself unknowingly to erecting a fence or hiring a large bulldozer. But fancy not knowing the names for the different garden areas!

The Ellerslie Flower Show can be full of everything but flowers - stones, shrubs, outdoor furniture, food stalls, businesses trying to sell things unrelated to gardening, tasteful musicians, and so on. And it isn't in Ellerslie, it's in my city (Christchurch), held in March. I went, this year. And it was fun.

As a compulsive recycler, I've decided to re-gift myself my New Year's Resolutions from years gone by. I do wonder if they'll still be applicable. Surely yes - particularly the ones involving garden maintenance tasks. Aargh! Maybe they'll be too boring, or way too out-of-date...
