Glorious dahlias...

Oops. Have been a bit of a non-gardener again this week. I've spent a lot of fun time with my smallish friends. My gardening has been rather mundane, limited to watering and picking up gum bark from lawns and borders. Am piling it all in the driveway - I'll burn it when the fire restrictions are lifted.

 All colours mixed up together.
Dahlias in the Hump Garden

And it's time to say a polite good morning to February, the real summer month in my garden. And a gushing good morning to all the dahlias.

The glorious dahlias! The wonderful, beautiful, stunning dahlias. Lots of strong colours, and lots of in-between smudgy bee-hybrids. Huge flowers. And minimal flopping (so far).

This journal page is dedicated to the dahlias. They are all very humble varieties, and I love them. So do the bumble bees (they ignore the spiky pinks). I'll often find bumbles who have snoozed on their flowers overnight. Sometimes a flower will have two or three bees jostling for a place at the same time.

Watched this little chap trying for three minutes to find the pollen!
Confused Bumble Bee

I watched the bumble bee in the above photograph trying to find pollen. C'mon, bee, you can do it! After some seconds he finally made it to the flower's centre, only to fly immediately away, disappointed. Darling bee - you did your best.
