Bonfire and blossom...

 Beautiful!
Big Pink Rhododendron

Have spent the last two gardening days dragging branches of Wattle tree to the bonfire, chopping them into pieces, and burning them. My toes inside my socks and gardening boots get incredibly dusty - this might be the most interesting thing I have to report, I'm afraid. And my back gets achy...

Mundane and repetitive...

Because cleaning up Wattle tree mess is mundane, repetitive work, and I have done a lot of it over the last couple of months. This time I am not keeping any branches for the shredder - they're very twisted and are just too difficult to handle. So all the piles that were on the back lawn are now burnt, plus a lot of mess raked up from underneath the Camellias. Am ready for more chain-sawing! Not me that does it, thankfully...

A superb location...

Looking on the bright side, my bonfire is in a superb location. The big pink Rhododendron just over the water race is now flowering. Actually, I think there are two, side by side. I love the different pinks of the flowers as they age.

Aargh! This is serious garden maintenance, a very tricky thing to manage mentally. It certainly gets physically hard, but one just has to keep on going and not get grumpy. One cannot have instant results, right? It's a mistake I often make - I work hard for two hours and then expect to see visible improvements. Hmm...

Next day...

Aha! Location, location, location. Feeling so much better after today's gardening, in a completely different garden area, surrounded by the beauty of yet more trees in blossom. And there was enough wind to make the bonfiring inappropriate. Yeay! Don't usually embrace the wind with such fervour. So I enjoyed doing three hours gentle weeding down the driveway - a wonderfully relaxing experience. No smoke! A peaceful mind, no aching back, happy fingers.

Variety unknown - the second weeping tree to flower.
Driveway Flowering Cherry Tree

Didn't think about those Wattles at all. Thought about where I should plant my pots of rescued daylilies - in full summer sun, I remind myself. And I have two new climbing roses to plant. Which archways should they go on? Blessed is the gardener who has a choice of archways, I reckon.

I also remind myself how beautiful the spring colours in my garden are. And what lovely shrubs I grow. Great choices. Give myself a big tick.
