Sad to see the roses gone

In a beachside town there is a beautiful house,in traditional colonial style, painted gleaming white.The owners planted a line of 'Sally Holmes' roses (soft shades of white and apricot)along the neat white fence, with masses of other white roses near the house , Very elegant in its simplicity ,and spectacular in spring-summer.Locally, everyone knew it as 'The white house'.
I saw it again after a couple of years ; it had been sold.The new owners took out all the roses and replaced them with native grasses, flaxes, cabbage trees, scrubby flowerless plants.
I felt close to tears at the sight .These plants are attractive in the right setting , but ruined the former stylish ambience.How COULD they do it !!!

My love, each one of us-humans uses different approaches in expressing his/her love or taste, don't you see? It all depends on our culture, or the way we are raised, or simply on the fact, that each one of us is unique! It is so hard sometimes, I know....

Dont you think that maybe its all these fancy magazines that cause this. Dont get me wrong I love looking at the mags but they seem to be promoting easy care (ha ha) and less is best- there is a word but it escapes me at the moment.
Come on Gardeners do your own thing. If you fancy a rose plant it, theyre no more trouble than any other plant . Take Cabbage Trees they loose all those leaves which get caught in the weedeater or the mower ( ugh).The fancy plants like Furcraea flower once and then die down and leave a monster gap in your garden... Plant what u like thats what I say!!!
