Pepper Trees

8 Feb '06 7:35 am
I have a friend who's concerned about planting things that attract bees, and she wanted to know if Pepper trees attract bees.

Has anyone had experience with this?

all peppers are self pollinated as far as i know... so don't attract bees.

plants from the cucurbits family, like cucumber need bees to pollinate them and without bees you won't have cucumbers. Avoid plants like this if you don't like bees.

So if you look at planting only wind pollinated plants you should reduce the number of bees in your garden.

:?: Well that's my guess but I don't really know :?:

I love having bees in my garden. I figure it means i'm doing something right :)

Pepper Tree (Schinus Molle)

I have two pepper trees and have never had a problem with bees. However the NZ Gardening A-Z states that "its pollen may cause a form of hay fever & some people are allergic to it"
I think they are a beautiful tree with attractive bark and twisting features, well worth having.
Hope this helps. :D
