A day of gardening at last.

I've been beginning to feel like a gentleman gardener. I hadn't pulled a weed in a long time. Just resting on my laurels and photographing anything that looked decent. Today I finally divided the daylillies, a job I've had on my to do list for years now. In the process I also weeded out the island bed. Whew but that felt good.

First I dug up and divided the three over-grown clumps and divided them. Each of the divisions could easily make three more but that was a start. I brought my camera out and took before and after weeding shots of the island bed to show what I was up against. Here they are:

You are a legend, Mark! Dividing the daylilies - while I am sternly reminding myself to do the same - except that'll be in six months time! I'm cross with some of mine - they just don't bloom well, particularly Stella D-Oro, who I have threatened with extinction (that means being thrown underneath the hedge with the other compostables).

What a grand clean-up. You must be feeling very very virtuous - suggest a plant reward, something interesting that you can pamper next summer? hee hee. LOL

Moosey I did indeed feel very virtuous. This morning that feeling seems to have transformed and lodged in my lower back. (Not really all that bad.) I have a backlog of new plants to get in the ground so I'll have to think of another reward. These daylillies have been pathetic bloomers for some time now, but I suspect it is because of crowding. I just hope the divisions I planted are small enough. I'm torn between wanting the mass of them back a.s.a.p. and not wanting to have to do this again any sooner than necessary.

Jack Too you certainly may make use of the title as often as you like. Heck, I may just take it for a spin again next weekend, try not to lose all my momentum.

Wow, Mark, you are indeed deserving of the Legend moniker. Doesn't it feel so good to look back at what you have accomplished? In that last shot I could just imagine the daylillies wriggling their toes and letting loose with a long AAAAAAHHHHHH.

into the dirt Faith, but I'm seriously thinking of shucking (chucking?) them. They're a lot of work without returning a whole lot. Perhaps a row of Dieramas? Similar basal clump but lower, much less dead folliage to remove. They wouldn't provide as much mass but that would allow room between them and the roses behind for another layer of something more textury.
