20 Nov '07 9:00 am Though some of my roses are grouped together in a special rose bed,I much prefer them to be mingling in the garden with other plants, hapily complementing each other. One of my favourite plants for this are Californian poppies.I have the pale creamy'Milkmaid'.They self-sow every summer and flower for a long time.I like them with the pink roses such as Mary Rose, and Sharif Asma. They are in the background in the photos with Sparkler on the leftlike a giant ice cream.

Creamy California poppies
22 Nov '07 6:29 pm Dixie! I quite agree that creamy California poppies are the most wonderful complement to rich pink roses (amongst others!) I've been planning to sow them in the Rondel Garden for even longer than I've been threatening to post about it. Yet I've never done it. This year I have an excellent crop of pale ones in the Lower Rosemary Border. I SHALL gather seed for distribution in ther Rondel Garden and the Anniversary Garden.
Thanks for posting! Lets have more pics of your lovely garden!

Poppies and paths
24 Nov '07 2:30 am Dear Dixie, your creamy poppies are beautiful! And I totally agree with Moosey about your lovely paths. I have never grown California Poppies because I always thought of the native orange ones, but those creamy ones are perfect compliments to roses as you pointed out. I will have to look for some of those paler colors to try.
