help- my daphne26 Jun '07 4:21 am
Hi, I'm not sure how this works, my first message board/forum post... I have a Daphne - Evergreen, blooms mid-winter, I've had for about 2.5 years, its my favorite plant in my garden, and its always seemed to be happy and perking along. Lately it looks pitiful, wilted and not healthy, two things that happened I installed a sprinkler system a couple of months ago, and had to move it about 3 feet. but it seemed to handle both events in stride- but then in the last week it started to look pitiful. Can anyone tell me what's potentially going on, and what i should try to save it? |

Mark is right!!26 Jun '07 6:43 am
Dear friend, Mark is right: Daphne needs a very good draining system, and hates overwatering! If you suddenly started changing her good habbits and needs in water.....
In your place, I would dig deep down to her roots , in order to check if they have rotten partly, or thoroughly... You can also do this: springle all around her roots, on the ground surface, special antifungal powder, used for Roses, Fruit Trees , and Vegetables, and then, water , in order to be absorbed. In case the roots are partly damaged/rotten, you could save her in this way --- but , still, you should have a good draining system ! Never plant in chalky , suffocating soil, plants, without removing the most part of this horrible rocky soil! And , always , on the bottom of the plant hole, put a thick layer of pebbles, or terracota tiny balls
If you do not do any of these, you have to check, that the plant stays dry , until, and if, it recovers. Also, cut back all of the damaged , sick growth.
Good luck! |

Poor Daphne!27 Jun '07 11:07 am
Hi, Jan!! Let's hope , Daphne, has not died yet, and she has only a partial problem !! If only a part of her roots are damaged, she will survive, and Liz will not have to move her away...Plus the fact, that Liz loves really her Daphne!! Love moves mountains, you know.... |

Has grown these plants in the past. Every time she had to move one the plants have always died. Maybe they just don't like to be transplanted? |
