There's nothing to compare with the feeling of seeing the first roses of the season.
They are all lovely.Fragrant plum is a lot like my Blackberry Nip -it has a strong perfume.

Hi Cajunangi,24 May '07 11:13 pm
long time, no see. How are you? I love the shape of that first rose though I had never heard of Jude the Obscure. It sounds like a David Austin rose. Nice color too.
That Fragrant Plum also has a very nice shape as well as unusual but pleasing color. Hot Cocoa is one of my favorites, even though it has no scent (to me).
I've read about Golden Celebration and am tempted again looking at yours. |

Yes Jude is an Austin, the color is just stunning. Golden Celebration has been known to have blackspot but seems to be going gangbusters in my garden. Im hoping that some of my other bands from Heirloom start doing something soon they have defoliated a number of times and I dont have a bud yet. |

Beautiful roses. I am new here and glad to see someone a little closer in location to me. I was beginning to think I was the only U.S. resident on here and maybe I had gotten in the forum when I wasn't supposed to. I am sure glad it is open to me, seems like a really nice place and I have seen lots of interesting and helpful things on here. I am in a tiny North Texas town, one of those with 1 store and 5 churches, LOL. Have to say I kinda love it... |

You are not alone.28 May '07 6:40 am
Hi Faerisweet,
I'm in Berkeley California, which some people both here and elsewhere consider a different country. (Not true.) This is a fun site. Opposite seasons downunder. There is Jack who gardens on a site that is farm sized -as does Faith who is on a farm in Alabama by the way. I believe Moosey, Anna and Dixie are on spreads of similar size or at least in rural settings, but I may be mistaken. But most of us have smaller sized gardens and though Liza's garden feels very spatious it is, I think, in a suburban setting in Belgium. I'm just less than a quarter acre and Jacqueline in Kuala Lampur (didn't check the spelling) takes the prize for smallest physical garden, though she manages to grow an incredible array of tropical (and not) beauties in spite of infrequent raids from monkies. There are also folks on our continent in Canada who grow gardens under conditions you would not believe. Gordon gardens in the middle of a perpetual gale on Vancouver Island I believe and Garden Gnome Chris who may still have icicles outside his greenhouse in Saskatchawan (all spelling owing to my phonics training in first grade).
I really like your avatar by the way. |

Thanks for the welcome29 May '07 5:48 pm
Hello Mark,
So many people from so many different places. I live in the country, on about an acre and a half. I have only put in a few beds so far, just moved, less than 3 months ago. I did manage to transplant a few things from the old place, a couple of rose bushes and a few perennials. Mainly I will have to start fresh, but it will be my own creation. I want to make it more personalized than the previous garden. Alot of the landscaping was already there and boring, but very low maintenance. With kids that was important then. I only had one island bed that I really did myself and that had the things I loved in it. Part of it is the pic in my avatar. Now my children are getting older (high school students) so I find I have more time and love to lavish on a garden. If only I had more money too. Tho they don't need my time and attention as much these days, they still need my money just as much.
Thanks about the avatar, it is a picture from my garden last summer. I think my signature is a bit big tho, for this site. I have always loved fairies, must be my Irish heritage, I need to see if I can come up with a smaller one to use tho. |

Im glad we all are here, its nice to make friends and sometimes they are handy to have. I have quite a few "internet" friends that I have met over the years and I think that we share something fine and beautiful when we can bring people from all walks of life together. We are all friends and nothing about who or what we are has influenced it just the love of the garden.
May we are share this experience and grow more each day from it.
Thanks for being my friends! |
