And a very pretty little puppy in your avatar too.Looks a real cutie, I suppose it will be grown up now. It brought back memories of when our dog was a pup and first came home. Putting her to bed with a hot water bottle and a ticking clock, it took a week or so before she settled into her basket at night and slept right through.

Hello Pumpkin.
I have been looking for my folder of pant tags but goodness knows where I have put it as it is not showing itself in all the likely places!!! So, I can't tell you it's name. The flowers are about 5 inches across. The tag did tell me it should be cut down by at least a metre each year but as it has only just reached that size I won't be doing that. I only planted it last Spring and it has taken a while to become established.
I sure know what you mean about trying to keep the Montana ones in check, during the summer I have to prune my one back every two weeks but it is so beautiful in the Spring that I think it is worth it.
This photo ( if it appears!) is called Mrs. N. Thompson. When I saved this on on the computer I filed it uner its name, should always do that but always think that of course, I will remember its name.
You must have some pretty flowers up there, any photos you would like to share?

He's 7 and a bit months now, and doesn't look anything like the photo anymore, he's all 'Scruffy' (which is his name, btw).
I desperately want some clematis but my biggest problem is which ones, there's so many to choose from!
I suppose if I can get at least a good dark purple and a good shocking pink and maybe a white, I'll be happy.

I like that stunning bi-colored Thompson Clematis, Tess! It's beautiful!! Never knew that clematis blooms are so large - 5 ins. or more, even as big as a plate as Pumpkin stated! Amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Trilenera,
You just might need some good oldfashioned tough love to grow Clematis Montana. If it likes the garden conditions it likes to show off and can get very big! I love mine, then I get annoyed as it strangles my flowering cherries, so I chop it down - then two years later, guess who is busy growing back up the trees?
Good luck, and nice to meet you, welcome to the forum. Happy gardening.
