I've developed a real liking for dianthis, particularly the tall sweet williams.
They are so easy to grow, take so little time. All I do is water them. I deadhead some of the smaller ones but leave most to reseed.
I love the way the tall sweet williams bloom in little bouquets. When cut, it will remain lovely for a week or more. The bouquets grow from little tufts of green.
My sweet williams were all grown from seed. They come up one year and bloom the next. They seem to freely self sow for me.

Lovely Dianthus and ...little-girl-grannies!31 May '07 2:26 am
Hello, and welcome, dear friend!
Well, it is great you start your posts with this adorable perennial! All the families of perennial Dianthus, are lovely, and so little demanding!! Of course, they all need sunny spots, especially the pinks and the tall grey-folliage ones. And they support draughts amazingly! If you choose the right variety, you can have dreamily scented blooms all the good season long!! And they all have such a cute look! That is why I have many of these babies thriving in our garden!
Concerning your ...granny wisdom, I totally agree! Yes !! Female gardeners, never stop being little enthusiastic girls deep down!

I have one that looks very similar to the second one. I really ought to grow more of them.
