English Iris31 Mar '07 5:41 pm
I knew if I searched hard enough & long enough, I'd find Moosey. I registered and my relic of a computer died not long after. Couldn't afford a new one right away. I did get my roto-tiller tho, and have been able to finally get a garden spot going. Added a lot of peat, free manure& sawdust from the county fair grounds, but what really finally made a difference in the clay soil was adding builder's sand. Anyway, by last fall I was able to plant a lot of tulips, daffodils, dutch iris & many of the lesser bulbs. This spring I will be putting in many perennials, & I will be shopping for showey bearded iris. Which brings me to the "subject". English iris.....Does anyone know where they can be purchased? I keep turning up all kinds of information, but I can't seem to find any business that sells them, at least in the USA. So, I'm hoping one or more of you can help.
Have a good weekend one and all

is English anything like Bearded?1 Apr '07 9:52 am
Hi Zoe, and welcome, but my goodness I am so not an iris expert. It all looks so simple in the gardening books, but I never have them with me when I'm doing any serious iris shopping. I get so many of my irises from friends, they are all what I call 'bearded' - but does that make them English? Help, someone! Liza! Help!

Another non-expert Iris comment.2 Apr '07 1:33 am
I have lots of Iris varieties in my garden. The bearded Iris I have are germanica. Other types are Iris Siberica (the Siberian Iris), Iris pallida, Iris pseudacorus (water iris), Iris cristata (the little short Iris)and Louisiana Iris (also for wet soils). The only one of these with a beard is the germanica type. I have never heard of an English Iris. Anyone else out there know about these?

Dear friend, if I were you, I would address to the Plant Finder Of the Royal Horticultural Society. Here you can find all nurseries in Britain selling the English Iris you want :

Good Luck, dear Zoe, and happy gardening! And,...stay in touch!

More about English Iris2 Apr '07 7:27 am
Dear Zoe, in the Plant Finder's "search on line", I wrote "English Iris", and I found five records: English Charm, English Cottage, English Knight, Latifolia, and Pumila. By the side of each plant , you can find which suppliers sell them, and where in Britain. Now. In Google/images, write each one of the above Iris names, and you will have their photos, in order to see which one is yours!
