you have surely been tested. To think about walking where my garden now stands and having only one orange tree remain as a marker makes me very sad. I have no delusions about my garden surviving for long after me, but it is always saddest when our 'children' -which a garden is like in some ways- go first.
Well I did learn something of your experience in New Zealand - on the northern island. Your childhood sounds idylic. I was a navy brat moving from port to port every few years growing up. I think the garden has given me the greatest feeling of rootedness I've ever known. I very sorry for your loss.
