1 Apr '05 10:32 pm My attempt at growing flowers from seeds is showing the first signs of life Hurray, the frost hasn't got to them! Yet...
The Nigellas are the slowest to grow - I am concerned because I had run out of compost so they have a very thin layer to start life in. One of the problems gardening without earth of your own!
The Clary and Night Scented Stock were clearly sown first as they are in neat little rows. I had become more slap-dash by the Ox-Eye Daisies and the Nigellas.
The sunflower seedlings look way over-crowded. I wonder which will do them the most harm - repotting so early, or lack of space...?
NB - Clicking on these pictures will enlarge them enough to actually see the green!

2 Apr '05 3:05 pm I grow my vegie seeds in mass clumps and once they reach about 2 weeks of age I re-pot them up.
Once they get to around 3cm high thats when I tease them away from each other.
Maybe you could give that a try with your sunflowers.

Re-potting seedlings
3 Apr '05 8:58 am Thanks, Rebekah - I was wondering when it would be 'safe' to move them on. The sunflower seedlings have come on a centimetre just in the last day! Must be all the spring sunshine.

3 Apr '05 4:44 pm Brassicas are pretty hardy/tough. I thrash mine around quite a bit when they're young, but I'm not sure about sunflowers and how they would stand being handled so young.
Maybe best to leave it a couple of weeks first to get their roots all sorted.
