Gordon, that is interesting, thank you. I am especially intrigued by the news that it grows in the more northern zones. I am in zone 6; I'd like to try them some day if I ever get a swampy area installed. Main problem here is mosquitoes which may defeat my plan. Think the "fragrance" would ward off the pests?! |

I don't think that the smell will ward off mosquitoes, as there are many where the plants grow. I think the smell is meant to attract flies for pollination, in a similar fashion to the Eastern red trillium a.k.a. "Stinking Johnnies". But they are sure a lovely, tropical-looking plant with huge, attractive flowers!
