I love the spirit of this gardening web site. Gardening is my true passion and I look forward to exploring yours. I garden in Zone 4b and am growing plants nobody else bothers with up here in the Mountains, like ROSES !!!! I grow them in containers on our upper deck, to keep the wildlife from helping themselves, and winter them over in the garage. Our friends can't believe it when we have them over. I also have a small (5 x 20) perennial bed that the wildlife and I share. I have naturalized daffodils in the front acre of our property. The winters are spent with house plants and forcing bulbs for the dreary months. Thank you for sharing your experiances, Connee Broas

This is one of the joys of the Web - you are on the other side of the world, yet we are fellow gardeners (and animal people) and so able to be in communication. I have garden cats, too. Ariel is a big yellow cat who considers herself my garden supervisor. She follows me around, making sure I do things properly. Our former bird bath was very shallow, and dried out quickly. I found her one afternoon curled up in it, tail draped over the edge, as though it was her throne. We've recently added Mimi and Chibi, two torties belonging to our Japanese friend Hiroko, after Hiroko's work sent her back to Japan on very short notice. Ariel is not pleased with this turn of events. The screeching and the swatting have, however, subsided to growling and hissing; friends they will never be, but peaceful coexistence can be hoped for. Thank you for sharing your beautiful part of the world.

I have only just connected to your web site and I really love your description of your garden. It sounds most natural and innovative. My brother from the UK and I toured New Zealand for the first time last year and we really loved it, particularly Christchurch. Must get back to your garden. Love your Web site.

I love this web site, and I read all of it I could ! I especially like the henhouse path, and the Rooster Bridge & Middle Bridge. I have only seriously gardened outdoors for 4 years so to me you have done so much & it looks like paradise. I know how tiring it is. I take vacation and work outside seeding & sowing and moving things for 12 hours a day. I drink a lot of Gatorade. Keeps me from dehydrating. It gets hot here. Well, I'd better go. I have about 67 roses so I understabd the interest. I keep buying them on sale, and getting the "sick" ones from friends. I have killed off a few, and I did grow a climber on an arbor with Sweet Autumn Clematis which grows like wild! Thanks for the great pictures, and dialogue. Donna Shannon

Found myself breaking the 11th commandment."Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors garden" Just beautiful!! I have only been gardening for a few years,so much to learn. So much to battle.Grubs, moles, drought,I keep trying to remind myself that gardening is a peaceful pursuit, try not to wage war on varmits, but when you mess with my plants,it is like messing with me or my kids.Watch out!Love your site, and will wander around quite a bit here.....so if you get an odd sensation that someone is looking over your shoulder while you putz around in your garden, dont worry, its only me.I am harmless, unless you are a grub.

Dear Mary, I sometimes feel the same as you when visitors ask to be shown around my garden. Lately I've decided to tell everyone that the surrounding garden style is "Controlled Chaos". This usually makes visitors laugh, and there's no more embarrassing discussion about why my garden doesn't have "rooms". Maybe such an expression might help you next time. Good luck with future visitors.
