Glass-house tour..?12 Sep '04 1:32 am
It's good to see the gardener in glass-house action, as well as the results! Thanks to Stephen (?) for snapping Moosey at work
With the coming-soon MCG-TV, perhaps we could make an interactive tour of the glass-house for you, Pumpkin |

Glass-house-cam could capture those naughty glass-house moments - like throwing away hundreds of perfectly good lettuce seedlings cos one is sick of pricking out, and can't imagine ever eating that many in one's lifetime, yet alone a short summer season.
Even though I know that no-one is looking (well, not yet) I still do it furtively and sneakily (feeling like I imagine a first time shoplifter might).
My guilty gardening exploits are saved for the moment by the lack of a zooming internet connection, hee hee... |

....aha! But we now know you do it
Makes me feel better about turning the 4th back-breaking punnet of onion sets over so I couldn't see them |

I start off rip snorting enthusiastic when poting up seedlings or bulbs but after a while... it's the furtive look over the shoulder then a hasty "shove the lot in one spot" or just shove them full stop.
I'm sort of ashamed to admit this... I bet we aren't the only ones though. |

I'm at my most irresponsible when things in there (the glass-house) need watering. Sometimes I'll put it off for hours, even days - then I rush in all contrite and guilty, confronted by parched, wilting, and sometimes dead seedlings. Eek! Then today (she says proudly) I watered in there twice! You can imagine why my glass-house tomatoes have never really thrived. |

Glasshouses that get hot - I used to faithfully paint on white shading paint every spring, and then scrape it off in the autumn. Now I just have old shade paint and lichen (on the outside of the glass) and some natural tree shade until mid-day. The thing I find the hardest is to be consistent. Some days I am vitally interested in my seedlings etc. Other days I couldn't care!
Hey, I hope your back gets better. You need incredibly long arms to garden with a bad back - almost impossible - arm extensions with super techno gardening hands in gloves at the very end would be useful... Now there's an idea! Technology meets gardeners head-on!
Cheers. |
