GREAT WORK1 Sep '06 1:40 pm
You're doing a wonderful job, Eggy. Those cacti will survive! Now, take care of "you" too.
I don't have another photo of Oklahoma blue skies, but I thought this one was interesting. The setting sun colored this storm cloud a very unusual shade of...what?

The hawk (I think) came out of no where. I didn't even know I had captured him in the photo.

The photo is absolutely Amazing -I hope it`s OK that I put it into a folder so I can keep it for my own enjoyment .
I saw a brilliant painting once - similar in that the artist had painted the roof of an old shed - one couldn`t see the hawk ,but you could see its shadow on the roof of the shed .Very atmospheric ...
Eggy - I hope you are feeling better soon .

Cacti ...1 Sep '06 7:18 pm
Eggy, since I returned from holidays I just have been wanting so to reply to your sensitive Terrace Cacti posts...And till now, I haven't...Cause Cacti and Grasses are two gardening fields I haven't tried with.. gardening, natural inspiration, so far, and probably never will.. But, how could I sincerely share this love and enthusiasm of yours for Cacti, if I am not a Cactus lover, but simply a Cactus admirer! And in my childhood gardening memory, I assure you, so many of our neighbours had Cactus plants, either in their balconies or in their gardens ! Some of them were huge and tall, and all of them happy and healthy! They were all behaving like ordinary, frosthardy plants, some of them with one-day-long blooms of exquisite beauty...
As Cactus and Plant World admirer, though, I can share the special beauty of your friends, following you with your exceptional, artistic photographer's eye. Their colours and shapes are really sublime!
And I always knew how they just hate(!!!) overwatering! That's why in this part of Europe where we live, Cacti are mainly indoor plants...But, even this -- how could I possibly tell you and spoil your sweet enthusiasm! Now you know... And , even more, you should know they need high -- comparatively -- temperature during winter, some of them not inferior of 7-10C...
But what made my heart sing among all your Terrace Cacti posts,... is your poem!! Because this one mirrors the happiness and tenderness of your heart! A true Gardener's heart!
Thank you, Eggy , because you made my heart sing through your beautiful poem!

Put a Shirt On4 Sep '06 9:13 am
It's a vision of unlovliness that follows me wherever I go. Men without shirts on are OK after rugby matches, or doing the haka. But sons in their rooftop gardens. Eek! What is the world coming to?

Uh Oh, caught out by Mum7 Sep '06 4:22 am
Looks like it didn't take long for Mum Moosey to spot that one. I was so impressed however with your portable greenhouses. Do you have a way to heat them when the temps drop too low? I have a very small portable electric heater with a blower and a thermostat that manages to keep my 10' X 12' greenhouse warm enough in the cold weather to protect everything. Something you might try is putting dark colored, waterproof pots full of water in the bottom if there is room. They will absorb heat from the sun during the day and release it at night.

Hi Eggy, you continue to dazzle me with your stunning macro shots! They're absolutely fabulous, all of them though the Stenocactus Hastatus stole my heart ! Great idea with that lovely and practical portable greenhouse for your thorny babies, love it!
Thanks for sharing.
