It's Winter - What Veggies can I Plant?

Hi All from a chilly New Zealand (South Island)

As a newbie to growing veggies (only moved into this property in December 05) I'm looking to see what I can plant now.

The ground's still hard from the snow and cold snap and I haven't managed to plant my garlic yet - is that a problem - can I still plant in a few weeks time?

And what else can I do to prepare or plant for the spring/summer?

I also have a small vineyard that now requires pruning - should I wait until spring or do that now too?
