Pacific Northwest, USA
I LOVE this website. Newbee Intro...22 Aug '04 6:17 pm
Greeting from the Pacific Northwest aka "Cascadia"...hence my handle. "Cascadia" is the mythical name for States of Washington, Oregon, and the Canadian Province of British Columbia. Just thought I'd introduce myself as a "newbee". I am a 43 year old empty nester of African-American/British/Irish descent. Ever since childhood, I've had a love for plants and flowers, and have attempted to garden even under limited conditions and circumstances...I even had a few bonsai plants when i was on active duty in the Armed Forces LOL. Right now, as I live in an apartment,I am strictly in containers but am enjoying it thoroughly. I feel extremely lucky that my boyfriend of three years is also an avid gardener, too--so he understands my "green" obsession!
It is my dream to someday write and publish a coffee table type book that will mix pictures of beautiful gardens around the world with original and time honored garden related poetry, essays, quotes, biographies of famous gardeners as well as and fiction stories about gardeners and romance, but for now I have to settle for my website to fulfil part of that dream.
Someday, I hope to travel to the UK and see all those wonderful gardens there like Kew and the lost gardens of Heligan in Cornwall, and maybe attend the Chelsea Flower Show. I tend to be very partial to the English style garden, but I enjoy other types of gardens, too...especially contemplative and herb gardens.
The exciting news? In two weeks, I will be fulfiling a 20 year dream...to travel to Victoria, BC, Canada for a week long trip to various gardens such as the Butchart Gardens and maybe the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific and taking afternoon tea at the Empress and other garden oriented venues! Will tell more about my trip after I return In the meantime, I'll just enjoy reading everyone else's posts. |

Welcome to Mooseys, and hope you enjoy your trip to Vancouver Island. Can you believe I visited about 12 years ago and DIDN'T go to the Butchart Gardens? Hopeless! Was too keen to drive up (i.e. north) the island and see some wild west coast Canada.
One of the most memorable gardens I saw in England was Hestercombe. It's nothing like a garden I would ever own, or design - very formal, very restrictive planting - but it has the most amazing 'feel'. My camera went wrong half way through my day there - consequently I 'took' many, many photographs - only to realise much later that the film wasn't wound on properly. Aargh! Perhaps my memories are hazily romantic because of this!
Hope you enjoy your trip - let me know what you like the best!
