Which plants are they?7 Mar '04 2:52 am
Moosey I was reading your article/note/journal entry on the garden by the water dated Feb. 23, 2004. I thought everything looked beautiful, though you were saying the roses didn't look so great.
I was wondering, could you tell me what the plants in that picture are? I really like the purple/lavendar flowered bush to the right of the roses as well as the tall flowers behind the roses.
Thanks! |

The blue coloured bush in this pix isn't a bush - its actually clumps of a blue perennial geranium. My friend who gave them to me thinks they're called "Johnsons Blue". They are really popular in English gardens, as are the tall flowers behind the roses - they're foxgloves. Brilliant flowers for tall late spring, though a lot of people here consider them weeds. Oops!
Sorry to be moaning about the roses. The ones in this garden by the water get lots of fresh air and space, and as a consequence are totally healthy - funny that! Pretty easy, really! Wish my house roses would take the hint! |

I'm going to start looking for blue perennial geraniums around here. They are just gorgeous! I'll also check out the fox gloves. I wonder if I could keep them alive. Hmm... |

I agree Mopsie - this is a gorgeous part of the garden, and a great picture too. Have you managed to find any of the plants?
This part of the garden looks like a quintessential English Cottage Garden. Were you inspired by your tours around English gardens, Moosey, or is this style of garden just as popular in New Zealand?
ps I notice that you've edited your rose-moans since then! |
