Rose and Gül10 May '06 11:01 am
Hiyah...I just wanted to introduce our two cats, Rose and Gül. They are sisters and as different as night and day.Rose in the background is the mischevious one who knows no boundries and Gül, squinting in the foreground, is far to lazy and shy to attempt anything as daring as hopping up onto the stove to see if there was anything left in the frying pan by accident.
Gül is very stand-offish and Rose will hound you to death for attention. These two have never been lap cats but they are always in the same room as we are no matter what we are doing...check Rose out- trying to have us believe that she likes to watch the telly...the lengths that she will go to to get a snack from us.
When we moved back to Holland this time we decided to settle down and become domestic...cats fit into that picture. My wife has always wanted a cat, but our lifestyle has not allowed for it until now.
We had a time finding a cat that we found suitable...and when we answered an add that my partner's sister heard on the radio, we found a young couple that wanted to get rid of of some cats because a baby was due and the father didn't want cats around...the only thing was that we would have to take them both. The woman didn't want to separate them. We met and chatted. She found us good enough for her babies and we were happy with the cats. They had been spayed and never been outdoors. They were 1½ years old when we got them.
This was good for us because our tiny flat is upstairs and the street below is a very busy one. We have seen cats lying mashed on that street before and take super extra precautions not to let them escape. After all these years it would be heart-breaking to loose one that way. They are actually frightened to be outside even on the balcony, which is probably just as well.
We are tickled to death with them and send the lady a X-mas card every year with their piccies on the self-made card...

Two new cats to admire! They sound the perfect pair, and exactly the best thing to have two! They look very intelligent and thoughtful, too...

They are adorable!11 May '06 6:40 pm
Just adorable, lovable , sweet creatures, Sjoerd!
I just loved the way you adopted them! I don't believe in coincidence any more, so I believe that ....they were made for you and your wife, and you were made for them! It is the eternal, intimate story of humans and animals ... Lovely, richly educative story, anyway...
