The Refulgence Rose=The Sweetbrier or Eglantine Rose=Rosa...8 Nov '05 10:46 am
....eglanteria, syn. Rosa rubiginosa!! Yes!
Dear Heather! Just in case you haven't mailed your answer yet, you should know , that -by chance!- in www.rosegardeningcenter.com/blog/4/sweetbrier-eglantine-rose, I discovered the following added information about the foliage scented Rose:
" The Sweetbrier or Eglantine rose (Rosa eglanteria, syn. R. rubiginosa ) forms an arching shrub 2-3 m. high and across. It is native to Britain and northern Europe. In addition to its beautiful pink flowers, it is valued for the strong apple- like fragrance of its foliage, and the hips that form after the flowers and persist well into the winter.. The stems are armed with many sharp, hooked thorns. Graham Thomas recommends that it should be planted on the south or west side of the garden , so that the fragrance will be brought into the garden on warm, moist winds. Also called eglantine."

P.S. : There is a beautiful photo of this Rose in page 185, bottom-right, of The Royal Horticultural Society - New- Encyclopedia of Plants and Flowers.
And a New(!) foliage scented Rose: Rosa primula(Incense Rose):
In the above Encyclopedia, page 188, I can admire a beautiful, soft yellow, single flowered Rose , in a clear picture. And under the picture:
"Lax, arching species rose, that bears scented, cupped, single, primerose-yellow flowers,4cm (1,5in)across, in late spring. Foliage is plentiful, aromatic, and fern-like. May die back in hard winters. H and S 2m (6ft)."
