15 Feb '06 7:57 pm Wow you have such a fantastic garden! I'm green with envy!
Your plants look so healthy and happy in your garden.
The bug you said eating your plant, can you give me a better description of it so I can identify it and give you a recipie for a spray you can brew up and put on.
Keep up the good work

Spider mites. HELP!
16 Feb '06 3:55 pm I will get to replying to all your posts tonight . I’ve been in the country, I love getting out of the city. I came back home to what I believe to be an infestation of spider mites .
Can anyone help me with there pesky red devils
They seem to be spreading already but are in a fairly localised area for now.
17 Feb '06 12:47 am Hi everyone. It’s 11:15pm here and I just got back from watering my garden. I’m a bit wet! I got back from the country to find my garden had taken a case of the wilts. I watered during the day and like a magic wand everything stood up and was happy again. Normally I like to water before plants wilt. I use the sunflowers to judge when to water as they seem to be very moisture sensitive. The slightest dry spell and the bottom leaves no longer have the life they did the day before. I watered twice today. The second time tonight to both ensure a good wet and destroy spider webs. I noticed during the day watering that a good hose down washed both red fellas and webs right off the effected plant. I hope that it slows down their activity until I try a solution.
Anyway, I should get onto reading and replying to the posts.
Liza: Thanks for your kind words. I look forward to some wonders. Sometimes there are disappointments, but these, I believe, help us to learn and try harder.
I did see your list of plants and the good news! I am keen to reread the post and will use it as a future reference. To receive and share information is why I came to the site. What better thing is there to do when people of similar interests meet up.
You will get a reply from me later and probably a few more questions!!!
Bex: Nice to finally meet you. I have read some of your posts but as yet haven’t felt the need to reply.
I think gardening in an urban environment definitely has it’s advantages and disadvantages. The main disadvantage for me is space and soil depth. Soil depth is also an advantage for me in a way as I can treat my plants needs somewhat better as if I were container planting. In reality my garden is like a big planting container. In hindsight I regret not providing better drainage and treating it more like a container but the soil I had at the time was the only soil I had. Space: I wish I had a bigger garden, the more plants to look after, the bigger the challenge.
It’s great to hear you are new to gardening also. It sounds like from your posts that you are really into it! I really love it but it’s not often a chance that I get to actually have a garden. Spacing is something that is learned from experience I guess. It is a matter of knowing the plant you are growing and how much room it is likely to take up in your garden. I think with time we will both learn the secret of this from observation.
I’m glad you like the toys etc. The garden is for my child. She is 6 months old.
Rebekah: You have a fantastic garden also. I wish I could move to NZ to work on it with you. I can imagine all I would learn from you and the fun I would have with some space to plant up BIG
I am glad you think my plants look healthy, I value this beyond the produce they create. I live to make plants healthy when I have the opportunity to garden.
I will take a photo of the bugs next time I am out and see them. It is unrelated to the spider mite problem, but I am sure the bugs will be around next year also so a recipie sounds great!
Later.
Viton: Hi there! I’ll certainly tell you anything you want to know about how I grew my garden. I’m flattered by your words. I’ll post some general things about how I go about caring for my garden at another time and you can take and leave whatever I say. I’m just beginning this gardening thing but I would be pleased to let you know what I’ve learnt from many stupid mistakes.
Take care everyone and I look forward to catching up with you later.
Keep it green.
