Late November Roses and livingroom Gardenias!1 Dec '05 9:01 pm
Hi, dear Roses' lovers!
Well, after 10 years living here in Belgium, it is the first time I have some Rose beauties still blooming in the frozen late November -almost December!- garden!! It is amazing, because these blooms have survived severe morning frosts AND snow!!
And my Gardenias!! How soothing is to have them happily blooming in our winter livingroom!
I share them all here with you!
All my love!

Beautiful flowers4 Dec '05 12:03 pm
Gorgeous flowers, alive colours, what a beautiful creation in your garden. You can almost smell the gardenias.
It is for sure that all your roses are tough... through snow or low temperatures, there you have them displaying full of life...
Keep on posting more pics!
Cristina

roses in winter19 Dec '05 10:00 am
Beautiful pictures, Liza. I've got a rose in bloom up on the roof terrace right this moment too... roses at Christmas! What on earth is going on with our crazy weather?! Its quite cold tho, so perhaps this is just a confused rose...?
Cristina - hello by the way, sorry if this is my first hello to you Thanks for all your posts. Did I see somewhere that you have roof terrace too? If so it would be great to compare notes as this is my first attempt. For example, is it normal to have roses in bloom at Christmas on a London roof terrace?!

Mini rose bush22 Dec '05 3:59 am

Nice to read you. What I have in London is (I´m afraid) too small to call it terrace, I´ll leave it in two narrow balconies I´ve got different pots and plants, and although they generally do well, the only inconvenient I find is the weather in London -it doesn´t help to treat plants and especially during winter.
My roses are blooming crazy now, from a mini rose bush. It was originally a gift from my husband and there were 4 trunks in it, but two of the plants died last year. Then I repotted the other two on to a bigger pot and let them grow a little bit more wildly, because they were really small bushes. Now this is the second winter I´m having roses blooming and they just keep on during spring and summer, resulting in my balcony showing red roses almost all year round. It´s so beautiful. The only small problem I have is regular powdery mildew, but I sort of manage. Again, the cold weather doesn´t help me treat them though.
At the mo I´m in Spain on holidays. Great rose bushes are grown in planters and gardens in the houses around, and almost all the bushes I´ve seen are blooming healthy -oh well nice weather they have over here anyway. So... it´s becoming pretty normal all these roses blooming in winter. A really beautiful display.
Anyway, as soon as I´m back in London and the weather improves, I will be acquiring new fellows for my pot garden. I also intend to grow a few organic veg... see me in the organic forum!
Have a great time all of you
Cris

Winter Roses.22 Dec '05 8:09 am
Christina!
I loved your warm description of the Spanish Rose gardens! And you are so lucky having roses blooming balconies all the year round! Do you know the name of your Rose bush blooming right now? Can you send us a photo? Is it probably a Floribunda or a Polyantha?
Happy....winter gardening!

Rosa Chinensis26 Dec '05 7:31 am
Hello all
Liza, sorry for taking this long in posting back; as you can guess I'm enjoying quite a lot with my family and friends down in Seville for these few days off I have, and haven't been connected to the Internet much... But back to your question, my rose is a variety of the Rosa Chinensis, in dark red. When I left, about a week ago, it was extremely healthy and had at least 11 small roses in full bloom. I haven't got a pic, but if I can manage to get one when back in London be sure I'll post it.
Down here, at my parents' place, my mom is growing a little avocado from the seed. It is amazing how quickly and healthy it is growing. However, it has taken a lot of effort and care... I'm now wanting to go back to London and grow mine!
Happy holidays everyone, best wishes
Cris
