Doggy Heaven
1 Apr '08 4:09 am A walk in the park is what it was, a dog park called Point Isabel. Point Isabel used to be a landfill dumpsite back when that was still allowed. It is right on San Francisco Bay's east shore, directly across from the Golden Gate bridge and the city. It's a place where the dogs can meet and sniff or just catch up on their peemail. Sophie has been coming here for all 13 years of her life so far.
It was sunny but pretty chilly and we all needed a walk. Much to Fletchers regret I brought the camera. Here are some pictures.
Fletcher before he knew I was bringing the camera.

It's a Dog's Life
1 Apr '08 2:54 pm Dogs just love doing this sort of low-key stuff - I think your trip sounds just magical. Who needs the ambience of park-like grounds when you've got dog-company? What dogs need to be happy is pretty simple, and basic.
I've just returned from a cycle ride with my dog - the best bit for him is when he stands in the water race (small canal) by the bridge, just before we get home. The water comes up to mid-chest, he just has to hang his head a bit and open wide and drinking water flows in! It must feel wonderful too for his foot pads - feet pads?
I feel we are so lucky to have dogs in our lives. Not everyone can.
PS Finally after years of public humiliation, with questions like 'Oh -is your dog a female?', Rusty will lift his leg when outside his own property.
Cheers, Mark, and big hugs to your dog-company.

Rusty is one lucky dog.
1 Apr '08 4:01 pm Whenever we go anywhere near water Fletcher will go for a swim, and lay down in it if it isn't high enough. He flies down a steep canyon wall to swim at the base of a waterfall on our regular walk. Sophie at thirteen has never followed him down there.
Water is so important not just for their health but also for their communication with other dogs! Rusty isn't the only mixed up pup. Sophie will lift her leg to put her message right where she wants it.
You know we're lucky not just to be able to live with dogs but also to know how great that is. If you aren't lucky enough to grow up with one, you might not figure that out. I'll always have a dog. I'd have a cat too if Lia wasn't worried about it clawing apart her weavings.

20 Apr '08 3:14 am Of course I think Sophie and Fletcher are two fine looking animals, as any proud papa would. I'll give them an extra hug for you.
