Well,
27 Jan '08 7:23 pm I'd been kicking myself in the pants for a while now to get started Faith. I seem finally to have hit the right spot.

SPRING BLOOMERS
4 Apr '08 5:48 am Well I've been putting posts here and there so I though I should come back home and put some pictures here too. I've been cutting and trimming a lot this week but still have lots to do. Here are some photos of plants that tell me spring has arrived. Some are generally associated with Spring. Others are just as reliable but lesser known.
Lia just came over to announce that her cold is still too bad to go visit her dad so it looks like another nice day for the garden! We'll see Jim next weekend. Happy gardening everyone!
The new Gunnera leaves become a presence again with the arrival of Spring. The Sonchus, whose sweet smelling flowers look a lot like dandelions, are less well known harbingers of Spring.
In the rock garden border near the steps up to the corner deck is this little South African bulb, Babiana, or Baboon flower. I'm told it gets its name from the animal that likes to make a meal of its bulbs.
This is the same flowering Quince. This one is white in bud and when it first opens but gradually fades to .. salmon? I've been calling it pink but it's certainly not a clear pink.
Last Spring my dark colored Aeonium produced its first bloom. This year my other A. arboreum 'Cyclops' is at it. There were four spires but one blew down in a storm.

6 Apr '08 6:36 pm and nice to meet you. You're in Australia, right? Lia seems to be recovering, thanks. We just got back from having dinner with her dad Jim and its pretty late so will call it a night. Take care.

10 Apr '08 7:10 pm Once again you have reset the standards, Mark. There are some shots that are exquisite garden portraits in their own right here and on flickr, not reliant on the added familiarity with your garden we have that has come with time. Gerberasfromotherside captures your garden like no other of your many portraits. It is natural, romantic and exuberant all at once! I have made it my desktop, replacing Liza's shot of the lake at the Chateau de la Hulpe in spring which has been my desktop for the last few weeks.

I'm honored to save your screen, Jack.
11 Apr '08 12:03 pm I'm very flattered. It is rewarding to hear what you say about my garden Jack. I always feel that with any artistic endeavor, if anyone 'gets it' or responds favorably, you should just count yourself lucky. If you pay attention to your muse and do your best to please her, there is a very good chance that you will be pleased yourself. And I am pleased with the garden. That someone else appreciates it is icing on the cake and when applied by someone as articulate as yourself, all the sweeter.
