30 Jan '08 7:52 pm Ha ha ha. And hee hee hee. Thanks a bunch, Jack! But seriously - what a brilliant photograph! Methinks some rather serious bulldozing would be required to widen the water course. And some great projects start out being quirky and silly ideas. They jolly well do!
I'm still giggling.

Seriously
30 Jan '08 7:58 pm Heale House's Japanese teahouse ( http://www.healegarden.co.uk/the_garden.html ) is a lovely spot on the water. Still rather grand, but perhaps there are ideas here. Could the waterrace be widened slightly? Or perhaps basins of water on either side of the waterrace to visually broaden the effect to the width of the gazebo? *. Not even my own garden, and I'm getting carried away!

Waterrace Gazebo
31 Jan '08 2:11 am Jack, your suggestion of the tea house design is very similar to what I would envision for Mary's gazebo. A rather simple square design with bench seats built in on the two sides, leaving a center walkway for traversing the bridge. Even if it had to be a wide bridge, with two sides enclosed by railings to leave a center walkway, it would be rather nice to sit there with the waterrace rushing by underneath. I don't have a real sense of how wide the water race is, so it's really a little hard to envision too much. But I think it's an enchanting idea.

31 Jan '08 7:13 am My friends, my friends! Affirmation of my silly little idea - you are both champions! I will show the resident engineer your ideas later this evening - please keep them coming, and let the force of global gardeners bulldoze him into taking me seriously!
The waterwheel is sluggish, needing balancing, and needing new buckets, but never-the-less it is a masterpiece of the bulldozing process, if you know what I mean. I'd have thought that a structure that didn't move would be infintely simpler to build. Hee hee again.

Inertia and all that

Mulling
1 Feb '08 8:55 am Just give him a little time to mull over the idea. I'll bet he will come around.
