Moosey's Rose, "Reine des Violettes"!!2 Sep '05 6:36 am
My God!! What a beauty! Because I had alreay admired this Rose before , when I saw it in Moosey's News, I thought how lucky she is!
And yes! Its fantastic colour and fragrance are very modestly described by Moosey. This is how another Rose Book describes the colour and fragrance of this adorable Queen: The fragrance is strong and sweet. But its great quality is the colour of its flowers, which varies enormously according to the year, place, soil, and climate. It is usually rich purple at first, before fading to lilac-mauve. The undersides of the petals, however, are pale silvery -pink,and set up very beautiful contrasts within the quartered flower.
Lucky Moosey!

Lisa,
You have exactly captured the loveliness of this old rose. The one (only one) thing that puzzles me is that she throws out huge canes in the middle of flowering - they reach way, way up, 2 metres of more, and often the flowers are nestled further down in the middle of the shrub. Hmm...
She is a lovely rose, though. And I love her name - I think of dancing fairies, like beautiful ballerinas...

Here she is again!
But , one has to admit, that Moosey's --very artistic and "live", very descriptive-- picture of the Queen (:in Moosey's News), is the best of them all! Enjoy!

Gorgeous mauve20 Sep '05 8:17 am
They are beautiful pictures, Liza. The rose seems to change colour in different lights. The middle of the rose is really interesting too, like roses within roses. Gorgeous!
