My Graham Thomas30 Jul '05 1:22 am
Hello! I have just discovered this lovely, "flowering" site and I'm enchanted! I am a greek, ordinary (rather happy) lady , living in Waterloo of Belgium for the last 10 years. I have 3 lovely children(28,24, , three old lady cats (19,17,15), and a huge colourful garden, with lots of perennials and about 85 Roses. Whose I am the ever nurturing Mom: human, animal, and plant Mom.Oh, yes!
I'm a "crazy" Green Finger since my very early years, falling in love first with all the wild flowers of Greece since my 2-3 years of my life...I guess, we are born like that...Because, I'm born being always, like crazy, mesmerized by Mother Nature and its magnificent beings!
And here I am, with a "strange" Graham Thomas( his 2nd summer with me) in my garden: who, yes, has exactly the same flowers and colour of all the photos I've seen so far, who yes, grows rather big, who, yes, pales to cream very easily, and, yes, loses his petals easily with the wind. But: No! He hasn't "shiny dark green" healthy leaves, but gray-green healthy ones. And NO, just NO fragrance, all the time!!
Please, tell me : is he a real Graham Thomas?
All my love, Liza.

How Graham Thomas looks like.30 Jul '05 8:31 am
Hi, Nut!
Well! You can watch some photos of Graham Thomas in various wesites (including in Moosseys'--Specific Roses information field: Home, then Rose Garden). I found one this afternoon, with many good photos, which convinced me, that my Graham Thomas is the real one :www.helpmefind.com/rose/index
I just loved the fact that you answered from Thailand!!I wish you and your old pet friends to live in harmony, peace and love (health naturally follows..)!
Love, Liza

Lisa, How nice to meet you in the forum! (I promise a proper e-mail reply, too, in the next day!). I have a theroy about leaf colour - I reckon it might depend on the type of rootstock used. I know definitely that David Austin roses I've got growing on their own roots have quite different leaf colour (e.g. a trio of mary roses).
About Graham Thomas - the one I think is Graham Thomas in my garden has no fragrance! Later today I will do some sensible research, though - my Graham Thomas petals blow off easily in the wind - does this sound similar to yours? Or are you lucky in Belgium not to get any nasty gardening winds?
Lisa, could you post some pictures of your old lady cats? I'd love to meet them! And some pictures of your garden in Belgium. What natural Greek plants do you grow in it?
Cheers,

Hi!Liza Thank you for your reply and thank you for the detail. Here in Thailand the always popular flower is white Jasmine flower because its aroma smell and it is the flower of the mother's day here and also the price is cheap (If you but in the right place )
My old dog his name is Tony he just being strong because he was sick I took him to see the doctor for treatment him once a week for 1 month and after the result of the blood check he is now normal.Just last Saturday I took him and the white naughty girl to swim at the dog swimming pool.
And I agree with Moosey that I also would like to see the picture of your garden.

Concerning Graham Thomas Rose31 Jul '05 8:39 pm
Dear Moosey! Thank you so much for your answer concerning dear Graham! I could never think that the roots' origin might cause different shades of leaf color.I only know, that if I add a little extra magnesium and iron to my plants, they have a darker and more vivid color (leaves and flowers). I like to"play" in this way with my perrenials -if I have spare time to play....
I must also add, that I discovered a very good "rose site " with the help of Google, that might be interesting: www.helpmefind.com/rose/index. It is not anything artistic, but strictly rose-information oriented, offering lots of different photos for each variety. That's why I was convinced about the right origin of my Graham and dear Golden.Cel.'s color ( I discovered who are her parents! The one is Charles Austin which -I think- is dark pink-salmon, and the other one an apricot-yellow, also known Rose).
Watching those pictures, I realized something: that the same Rose's flowers vary in color and shape, according to the climate conditions, at the very moment you are taking their photo! Do you agree? And, of course, it has to do with the camera itself, too.
Here in Waterloo it has been raining almost non-stop for the last week. And the temperature!! 14 Celcius at the 8.30am this morning! It is an Autumn Sunday today, at the beginning of... August! Yes!! I feel so sad...
Well, I must leave you now.
Until next time, all my love, Liza.

I hope you don't mind that I moved this post into the Rose forum from the Info & Announcements section. I like to keep all the roses in the rose garden I really must rename that other section, it's very confusing...
