16 Sep '06 10:11 am I have just put the first of the Freesia out for the Gate Sales. They look so lovely (and smell divine) I just had to share them with you all.
16 Sep '06 11:56 am They are gorgeous ,Goose. So pristine .People from overseas sometimes have never seen 'Honesty boxes' such as your ice cream container on the left .I love being a NZer ...

So True!
16 Sep '06 8:03 pm Yes, dear Goose!...those freesias are sooo beautiful! Too bad I can't get their scent .
And yes, dear Dixie...kindly enlighten me on honesty boxes and gate sale? The closest similarity (though not related to garden sales) that I've seen is an open box displayed next to a stack of 'Herald Magazines' (weekly religious newsletter) for sale on a small table placed at the entrance of our church, so whoever wants to purchase one just take a copy and drop the money into the box.

Freesias
16 Sep '06 9:48 pm Oh Goose, your Freesias are delightful, beautiful and loads more adjectives too! I just adore freesias and they're my mum's favourite flower too - think I might have to hop on a flight down under to pick up a bunch or five from your box!! I'm sure it would still be cheaper than buying them over here - the florists always charge so much for freesias, it's just not fair!
Jacqueline, the honesty box idea is pretty much what you have described. You don't find them where I live as I'm too near to London and it's quite built-up, but where my parents live in Devon, you quite often see boxes of vegetables and things with a sign saying something along the lines of "take what you need and pay what you want"

18 Sep '06 8:26 pm Thanks, dear Bambi for your sharing. I like your phrase "take what you need and pay what you want", though I prefer this: "pay what you didn't take"! Hee..Hee..
