Grilled Hydrangeas and other garden things!...20 Jul '06 11:31 am
I am just wondering: have you ever had... grilled Hydrangeas?? Cause I have! The last July in Belgium is the hottest and driest of all during the last 30 years --they say, at least...Apart from the Hydrangeas , the lawn is grilled , too. Remember it in June?? Oh! Forget it! Now it is all sadly yellow,...and hot! Have a look:

Hallo, Liza! I can imagine your disappointment - your garden was such a perfect picture, and I am sure in a good year would have remained so for many weeks longer! However I'm sure you'll find that despite your grilled hydrangeas (it happens to me 20% of the time despite planting them in deep shade), other flowers surprise you with the enthusiasm of their flowering. I can see though that you've managed to retain a sense of humour despite your disappointment. Ah well - if we can't deal with the cruelty of nature we can of course just keep plastic flowers!

The cruel sun.21 Jul '06 3:53 am
Dear Liza, no matter how we tend our gardens, nature has her own agenda. My gardens would be a lot nicer if the dreaded prairie winds would just leave them alone.
I have heard that your part of the world is suffering in a heat wave right now. I can see the results in your post.
Hang in there my friend.

Toasted Hydrangeas!21 Jul '06 10:24 pm
My dear Liza, it may appear slightly unsightly to you, though to me they seem like strawberry-flavoured meringue topped with crushed honey-toasted cornflakes! Yummy!
Anyway, cheer up, my dear friend - I can still see alot more of your beautiful and colourful blooms whose beauty far outshine your temporary loss!

Hot Hydrangeas22 Jul '06 8:54 am
Dear Liza, it's such a sad look - crackling dry grass which makes all green lawn lovers despair, and all those smug gardeners who have ripped out their lawns can say 'I told you so!'. I can't garden properly wthout water either. I remember how fresh and lovely that garden was in the spring (wehen I saw that lawn being as green as green). Gardenng perfection is totally elusive - in fact, if ever one of us thought that everything in our gardens was actually 'done' to perfection the world would be a sorry place!
Lawns are clever, though - and so are plants. They can survive a bit of adverse weather, maybe better than us humans!

Our Earth and Souls as a Garden!16 Aug '06 10:20 pm
Yesss! I am back!!
I've missed you sooo! Yes, it was lovely! After the storm I had experienced in my life these last months, this was Heaven...
But our Earth is Heaven! -- I mean the Divine Art of it.. If we could only live in peace in such a Heaven -- exterior and interior Peace..
It is a long travelling story, which I promise to narrate properly , and share with you the tiny parts of our Earth's Heavenly Gardens I've experienced. But I'll do it in a weeks's time, cause now I have to be very occupied by the practical, non- romantic or colourful things of our normal houshold...
The garden looks like a jungle! The grilled lawn has become almost totally green again , very tall in places...It has been raining during the two out of the three weeks we are away from home..The Roses are healthy , ready for their September blooming, some already blooming with sad , deformed, moist flowers, like those of the pot Geraniums... Lots of weeds..Oh dear...Well , no watering at least for the next ten days, just during my houshold after-vacations occupation. And right afterwards, my green babies will be tenderly taken care ...
But do you know what I mostly missed of you here? Your souls! Your most tenderest Gardeners' souls expressed in the most beautiful way of written speech here! The gardens of your souls !! With your flowering, tenderly taken, photos!
I promise! I'll be back soon, my tender, gentle friends!
And here I send you a little taste of what we will share in detail a little later, plus some ...jungle garden aspects...

Oh Liza! What beautiful photos you have shared with us. It makes me want to drop everything and head for Greece. I also loved the photos of your grilled garden after the rain. What a lovely little garden shed you have with its window box. (I hope that was your garden shed in the pictures. How embarassing it would be if not.) I can't wait for the rest of your photos and your descriptions of your trip. It is so much fun visiting these exotic locales through the eyes of all my new Forum friends. If I can't go myself, this is the next best thing.

Hi Liza18 Aug '06 5:13 am
I've missed you! It seems you had a wonderful holiday and I look forward to more stories and pictures. Of course for us so far from Europe it all seems so magical! Your garden - like nature always does! - seems to have recovered from the heat and drought, and in fact looks deliciously romantic, all overgrown and lush - especially in the photo taken from upstairs!
