Kerria Japonica "Pleniflora"26 Apr '06 7:51 pm
Yes! She is a golden beauty! A full hardy , easy Springtime perennial shrub. She can reach the 3m tall( 9 feet), and 1,5 - 2m wide. She prefers the full sun , but can survive in partial shade. She produces an abundance of golden flowers in the beginning of Spring ( April-May in Europe), and occasionally throughout the good season . Her foliage is beautifully shaped in light green. She hates compact chalky soils and prefers the neutral , fresh, good quality soils. She can survive the dry spells. But she can be very invasive , "badly behaved" to her fellow neighbouring plants...So, we have to cut back every Spring the new shoots around her, which can even be found 3 m away from her among her neighbouring plants, if we let them at their ease.. But it is exactly by these new shoots, created by her sprawling roots, she can be propageted with. I have ...7 of them in our garden! They grow so fast! Even from their second year, they are more than 1,5m tall already and quite large!
Here she is:

I do not know this shrub ,Liza ,but thank you for sharing it with everyone here. What a spectacular sight after winter gloom ! In the front garden, everyone passing by can enjoy it too ! As well as the red tulips, I`m sure Liza would have some lovely blue polyanthus or bluebells somewhere !
Dixie.

Sunshine Beauty!27 Apr '06 2:58 pm
Wow! These shrubs are gorgeous, Liza! Just the right height to display their luxuriant and beautiful blooms that seem to outshine their foliage! I especially love the 3rd pic, dotted with the flaming-red tulips that added a touch of romance to your sunshine beauty and the last pic like a huge bouquet waiting to be ribboned and delivered to me
You're truly blessed to be surrounded by so many lovely springtime flowers, shrubs and trees! Hmm... no wonder you're so vibrant and cheerful always!
Thanks for sharing, dear Liza! By the way, what's the name of the lovely blue flowers (looks like a type of lily) in your avatar?

These fotos are absolutely fabulous! What remarkable plants you have, I have never seen them quite THIS big! They are gorgeous.
I had one myself, but finally had to remove it because of it's invasive qualities.
I am still removing little up-shoots.
They are really pretty aren't they, though? An eyecatcher in the spring.
I take my hat off to you, Liza

...Exaggeration...29 Apr '06 8:23 pm
You...exaggerate , my good friend Sjoerd! Because I've seen the beauties in your garden! How happy and healthy they all look! And I have to add that apart from your lovely Buddleias, your Clematis Armandii, and your Westerland, it seems that the rest... residents are the same in our gardens!!
And, dear Dixie, you are right, I have a lot of blues in my garden -- and also in the front garden -- represented by Salvias, Delphiniums, Campanulas, Geraniums, and short and tall Scabiosas. This summer the blue beauty of some 25 frosthardy Agapanthus will express itself for the first time in our garden...I feel a blue....gardening happiness!
Dear Jaqueline, the avatar is a beautiful photo taken by either Moosey or Eggy in Moosey's Garden! And it is one of my mostly beloved blues, an Agapanthus!!
I chose it from a lovely collection for avatars that exists in the website itself . But if you want to admire even more beautiful photos than this, visit www.images.mooseyscountrygarden.com!! This photo site works for me as one of my treats during the gloomy, cold, winter nights...

'Better late than never' reply!11 May '06 5:47 pm
Dear Liza: Nearly missed this last post of yours, had I not yearn to revisit this topic today to enjoy again your yellow beauty!
Yes, I've already visited Moosey's image gallery the very next day after my enquiry about your avatar ( I'd thought you had missed my question when you posted on 28/5, so this garden 'freak' (that's me!) got impatient and searched....) and located its image/name there. Perfect bliss! Armed with this knowledge of its name 'Agapanthus', I googled at Moosey's website which led to some interesting articles/earlier forum posts about it and later googled at other websites to know more! Wow, there were so many images of this lily (aka African Lily or Lily-of-the-Nile) in other colors too!
Thanks all the same, Liza for your reply. In fact, if I recalled correctly, it was from one of your earlier posts in another topic advising the same images' gallery that gave me this clue to solve my own riddle! Thanks again, my dear friend!
