Most Valuable Pet Competition17 Aug '05 10:43 am
Someone has just asked... what is the prize, and when should it be awarded? I.e. is there a 'deadline' for deciding the most valuable pet, or is it on-going, e.g. monthly? Quarterly?
Questions, questions... |

A Good Question. The Database that stores the votes includes the date so when we have collected a few months of voting data we'll easily be able to break it into months or quarters etc.
Moosey was a mathematics teacher before she became a gardener and I like to monitor and show change and rates of change. I'm learning lots of good web graphing skills at my new '9-5 stocks and shares' job that I will be bringing to the MVP.
We're already getting emails from people getting behind the MVP, many of you are telling us why you are voting for Tiger or how you are voting Poultry to antagonise the Head Gardener so I'm going to add a comment box so you can leave a message along with your vote.
As the competition heats up you'll be able to browse competition profiles of the contestants and read each others voting comments.
I have no idea when the 'competition' stops or starts, All that I know is as long as Moosey continues to badmouth the poultry they will continue to receive points.
I'm sorry for the sudden change in the rankings over the weekend, I should have taken the test head gardener points and my own test votes before announcing the MVP competition to the world
Vote totals ARE prone to change whenever I catch sneaky duplicate voters, but I promise they won't ever be as big as last time.
sneaky vote detection is only possible AFTER voting patterns form, requiring removing of votes deemed duplicates. Luckily this is a very small amount and shouldn't change the rankings.
I may also bring a scaling system in at some stage to try and preserve the value of the different vote categories. otherwise Smoocher will eventually have 1000's of votes, making her 20 posthumous pet points statistically insigificant.
In short I like pretty stripey lines on my graphs! |

I think there should be a real prize - for example a ceremonial new pond, one of those buy-in jobs where paid burly men lift heavy rocks and drive dozers and diggers. Poultry Pond? Lucky Pond? Tiger Pond? Smoocher Pond? Sheep Pond? A plaque, and a prize-winners viewing seat, and fish - who could join next year's competition as another, far superior, nicer group entry... |
